Exit 2023, Enter 2024 with NLP Meta-Frames
When the director on a movie set says “cut” and the scene ends; or the curtain falls when the last line in a play is uttered; the curtain has fallen on 2023, and it’s an opportunity to gracefully take a bow and exit the 2023 scene!
Like worn out clothes in our wardrobe, it’s a time to retire mindsets and perception that were perhaps best suited for 2023. Instead of unknowingly carrying them over into 2024, this is an opportunity to take a pause and do a quiet debrief of the year that’s gone. But more importantly, it’s time to deliberately choose a meta-frame that might be more suited for 2024!!
ππ‘ππ π’π¬ π π¦πππ-ππ«ππ¦π? Think of it as a larger context to operate from, something that affords you a way to conduct yourself. Since 2020, I began setting meta-frames for myself, as “one word/phrase” that have served as the larger context for how I conduct myself or push myself even, in a new direction.
My meta-frames for the last few years have been:
β 2020: Don’t Think
β 2021: Stretch
β 2022: Grow
β 2023: Ask
Each of these words themselves serve as an anchor, but also allow me to wear an attitude that dictates how I go about my business! The key is to pick a word/phrase that comes instinctively and rings true for you. There is no need to wordsmith this!
This is not a formula to get things done but works on the principle that the mindset you are in, brings you choices, which in turn allow you flexibility in actions, and then eventually outcomes.
Even though this results in outcomes in the end, as an individual, the focus must start and remain with the mindset and the attitude one wears!
When you choose a meta-frame, it’s worth picking something that has the potential to stretch you. And in stretching, we grow.
A meta-frame helps stay on course with the direction you choose to go next. It leaves you with the flexibility of how you want to go in that direction, as every detail doesn’t need to be figured out π§π¨π°!
Staying with one meta-frame allows us to truly practice surrendering to a larger context and operating from that. It is like picking up something new to practice. I invite you to try out this approach of setting a meta-frame for yourself as you close the 2023 frame and open a new frame for 2024.
The frame I am choosing for 2024 is “π«ππ₯ππ§ππ₯ππ¬π¬”. The picture accompanying the post is from a trek I had been to in 2018. It reminds me of how the mountains and the terrain, demanded more out of me in my quest to complete the trek. As exhausting as it was, I came back having discovered some new strengths I didn’t know existed. So, the meta-frame for 2024 comes from a place of wanting to leverage on strengths build in the last few years!
